Why Use This Tool

Privacy and precision. Most online counters log your text for analytics. Our utility runs 100% client-side, ensuring that your proprietary drafts, internal documentation, and sensitive communications never leave your local machine memory while providing high-fidelity structural analysis.

FAQ

How are words counted?
Words are identified by splitting text on whitespace boundaries using a regular expression. This approach handles multiple spaces, tabs, and newlines correctly, and works across Latin, CJK, and other scripts.
How is reading time calculated?
Reading time is estimated at 238 words per minute, the average silent reading speed for adults according to published research. Speaking time uses a slower rate of approximately 150 words per minute.
Does the character count include spaces?
The tool shows both counts: total characters (with spaces) and characters without spaces. This is useful for platforms like Twitter/X where spaces count toward the character limit.
Does it work with non-English text?
Yes. The counter handles Unicode text including accented characters, CJK ideographs, Arabic, and emoji. Word boundaries are detected by whitespace, so results are accurate for space-delimited languages.
Is my text stored or sent anywhere?
No. The word counter runs entirely in your browser. Your text is never uploaded to any server, making it safe for confidential documents, legal drafts, and proprietary content.
